Marty Gobin

Marty Gobin

Marty has years of experience in trials, appellate matters, and judicial reviews in civil and criminal litigation before the Superior Court of Justice, Divisional Court, Small Claims Court, and Ontario Court of Justice.  He also has experience with administrative tribunals including the Landlord and Tenant Board, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Ontario Land Tribunal, Ontario Labour Relations Board, Ontario Civilian Police Commission, municipal committees of adjustment, and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.  In addition, he writes about the law and teaches it at colleges and universities.  His articles on legal subjects have appeared in Canadian Lawyer Magazine, Law360 Canada (formerly The Lawyer’s Daily), the Toronto Sun, and the Ottawa Citizen.  He has taught a constitutional law course at Ontario Tech University’s legal studies program as well as numerous courses at George Brown College’s Law Society-accredited paralegal licensing program.  He is a past Chair of the Property Standards Committee of the City of Oshawa, responsible for hearing appeals under the Building Code Act, 1992.

Olga has over 25 years’ experience representing clients before the Small Claims Court, and the Landlord and Tenant Board.  Licensed since 2008, Olga has managed law firms and paralegal firms, delivering professional and experienced services to her clients, across Ontario. Since 2018, Olga has been teaching and is a part-time faculty member at George Brown College’s Law Society-accredited paralegal licensing program, instructing in courses such as Residential Tenancies Law, Small Claims Court, and Advocacy, among others.  She is a contributing author for Communication and Writing for Paralegals, 2nd Edition, as well as Ethics and Professional Practice for Paralegals, 6th edition used in accredited paralegal licensing programs at colleges across the Province of Ontario.  Most recently, Olga has revised and updated the Small Claims Court: Procedure and Practice, 6th edition textbook for Emond Publishing. She is well-versed in various legal issues residential landlords face in Ontario, including enforcement procedures through the Small Claims Court. She was a volunteer member of the City of Oshawa’s Accessibility Advisory Committee from 2020 to 2022, as well as the recipient of Her Late Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee Award from the office of the Member of Parliament for the Conservative Party of Oshawa for her services to the community.

Kimberly Lahtinen-Horenburg

Kimberly received a diploma in Paralegal Studies from Durham College, for which she received honours for high academic performance.  She has paralegal experience both as a sole practitioner and subsequently an associate at Gobin & Leyenson LLP, in relation to civil litigation before the Small Claims Court, residential tenancy law, and human rights.  She represents clients before the various courts and tribunals, in Ontario, with a focus on contract disputes and employment law before the Small Claims Court, human rights litigation, and landlord advocacy representation at the Landlord and Tenant Board.

With over 10 years of experience, Christine represents residential landlords in matters before the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB). Her work focuses on Above Guideline Rent Increase (AGI) applications, eviction proceedings, and complex tenancy disputes under Ontario’s Residential Tenancies Act. At Gobin & Leyenson LLP, Christine works directly with residential landlords to assess their legal position, prepare applications, and guide them through the procedural requirements of Landlord and Tenant Board proceedings. She regularly assists landlords with AGI applications based on capital expenditures, extraordinary operating costs, and municipal tax increases. Christine is known for her ability to manage and structure extensive documentation while conducting detailed legal research on complex tenancy issues, helping landlords navigate challenging regulatory and procedural questions. Her work focuses on providing practical legal support while helping Ontario landlords understand their rights, obligations, and strategic options when dealing with residential tenancy disputes.

Yuliya has over 8 years of experience representing clients in landlord-tenant disputes and civil litigation matters. She focuses primarily on proceedings before the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB) and Small Claims Court, assisting clients with disputes involving tenancy issues, rent arrears, contractual conflicts, and other civil matters within the paralegal scope of practice. Yuliya works closely with clients of Gobin & Leyenson LLP to assess the strengths of their case, develop a practical litigation strategy, and guide them through the procedural requirements. Her approach emphasizes thorough preparation, clear communication, and careful organization of evidence, which are critical elements in successful tribunal advocacy. Throughout the years, she has gained extensive experience assisting both landlords and tenants. Yuliya serves a diverse client base and is able to assist clients in English, Russian, Ukrainian, and Polish, helping individuals navigate legal proceedings in a language they are comfortable with. She focuses on delivering practical legal solutions while helping clients understand their rights, obligations, and strategic options when pursuing or defending legal claims

Alex’s dedication as a legal advocate is reflected in his detail-oriented representation of Gobin & Leyenson LLP clients before the Small Claims Court, in Provincial Offences matters, proceedings before the Landlord and Tenant Board (LTB), and applications before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO). Alex combines strong advocacy skills, attention to detail, and practical problem-solving to help clients navigate complex legal disputes. Prior to entering the legal profession, Alex spent ten years working in the construction industry, providing valuable real-world insight into contractual issues, property matters, and dispute resolution. Alex completed the Paralegal Certificate program at George Brown College, graduating at the top of his class, and is a graduate of the University of Ottawa. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) through the University of London, further expanding his legal knowledge and advocacy skills. Alex is committed to providing Gobin & Leyenson LLP clients with professional, diligent, and strategic representation while guiding them through legal processes with clarity and confidence.
