The most likely charge that a resident of Ontario will ever face is a charge under the Highway Traffic Act. Some charges are relatively minor and can result in a small fine as well as possible demerit points and an increase in a driver’s insurance premiums. Other charges, such as careless driving, are more serious, and in some circumstances drivers can face jail time if they are convicted.
